ServiceNow is transitioning from sidecar AI integration to a fully AI-native platform experience, enabling developers to build with familiar tools while deploying directly to ServiceNow’s environment. Starting April 15, developers can utilize existing AI development environments including Antigravity, Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, Windsurf, and others.
The ServiceNow SDK and new Build Agent skills provide compatibility across major AI development environments, allowing developers to remain in their preferred IDE while citizen developers can describe workflows in plain language. This approach generates functional applications on ServiceNow within minutes based on tested scenarios.
For teams building on pre-existing apps, ServiceNow Studio with embedded Build Agent offers the deepest AI-native development experience on a unified platform. The system maintains full instance connectivity, understanding live data models, active scopes, table relationships, and business rules in real-time. This capability surfaces appropriate fields, dependencies, and extension points as developers construct applications.
Governance and identity frameworks are consistently applied across all custom applications and AI agents through AI Control Tower and App Engine Management Center. New customers receive 100 free Build Agent calls, while personal developer instances include 25 free calls.
AI capabilities, data management, security, and governance are now integrated into every ServiceNow product offering, regardless of customer size. The platform maintains four core product categories:
- IT Service Management
- Customer Service Management
- IT Operations Management
- ServiceNow AI Platform
The expansion represents a strategic shift from bolted-on AI features to an architecture where AI capabilities are fundamental to the platform’s operation across all services and customer touchpoints.
