Nintendo Bails on Xenoblade Chronicles X Upgrade After Fan Backlash!

Well, gamers, it looks like Nintendo’s latest Switch 2 upgrade isn’t quite living up to the hype! Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s Switch 2 Edition launched this week with promises of 4K resolution and “up to” 60fps support in TV mode, plus 1080p and “up to” 60fps in handheld mode. For just £4.19/$4.99 USD, players with the original Switch version were supposed to get a significant visual boost. But as it turns out, the upgrade isn’t delivering on those promises, forcing Nintendo to offer refunds to disappointed fans!

This situation echoes what happened with other Switch 2 upgrades for games like Super Mario Odyssey and Zelda: Breath of the Wild—though those seemed to have fewer issues. The Xenoblade Chronicles X upgrade, however, appears to be struggling with performance, with players reporting that the promised frame rates and resolutions aren’t being achieved. It’s a tough spot for Nintendo, especially as they try to convince players that upgrading to the Switch 2 is worth it. When even premium upgrades don’t work as advertised, it makes you wonder about the overall quality control on these enhanced versions.

What’s really interesting here is how Nintendo is handling the situation. Rather than ignore the complaints or push out a quick fix, they’re doing the right thing by offering refunds. This shows that they’re at least listening to their fan base, which is good news! As JRPG fans, we know how important these games are to many of us, and the performance issues could seriously impact the Xenoblade Chronicles X experience. Hopefully, Nintendo can get these upgrade issues sorted out quickly, because we all want to enjoy these amazing games in the best possible quality on our new consoles. What do you think, fellow adventurers? Will you be grabbing the refund or waiting for a patched version?
