Persona 5: The Phantom X x Persona 3 Reload Crossover Is Live With Makoto Yuki as a 5-Star Character
Two of Atlus’s most iconic casts are finally sharing a screen. The Persona 5: The Phantom X × Persona 3 Reload crossover went live on May 21 across Japanese and Global English servers, bringing Makoto Yuki — the blue-haired protagonist of Persona 3 — into the free-to-download mobile RPG as a playable 5-Star character with a full story event.
The crossover, titled “Met by Moonlight Part 1,” is the first collaboration between P5X and another Persona title, and it signals Atlus’s willingness to treat P5X — which launched globally in late 2025 — as a legitimate crossover hub for the broader Persona universe rather than a standalone gacha spin-off.
Makoto Yuki Joins the Phantom Thieves
Makoto Yuki arrives as a 5-Star Fire-attribute Assassin with a unique combat mechanic built around Moon Phase stacks. By accumulating these stacks through his own skills and ally support, he can unleash devastating burst damage. On top of being an offensive powerhouse, he also provides party-wide buffs — fitting for the leader of S.E.E.S. who spent an entire game coordinating his team against Shadows.
His kit includes signature Persona 3 mechanics ported into P5X’s system:
- Assist actions replacing standard ranged attacks
- Theurgy in place of Highlight abilities — a nod to P3R’s revamped combat system
- An exclusive 5-Star weapon, the Silent Pistol, available through the Arms Deals banner
Players can also purchase a Butler outfit set for Makoto from the in-game shop (2,880 Meta Jewels during the event period, 3,200 after), which includes a matching avatar, profile design, and frame.
The Story: Met by Moonlight
The crossover narrative follows P5X’s protagonist Wonder as he heads to Port Island (the setting of Persona 3) with Riko and Lufel. After getting separated from his companions, Wonder wanders into a labyrinth that turns out to be Tartarus itself — the massive tower that appears only during the Dark Hour.
There, he’s rescued by Makoto Yuki, and together with Yukari Takeba, the group navigates Tartarus while searching for their missing friends. Along the way, they discover a mysterious door that leads to an impossible scene — keeping the true nature of the crossover’s climax under wraps.
The event story also includes visits to Paulownia Mall, Persona 3’s iconic shopping district, now recreated in P5X’s visual style.
A Growing Roster
Makoto Yuki isn’t the only P3R character making the jump. The earlier East Asian servers have already seen the addition of Yukari, Akihiko, Mitsuru, Fuuka, Junpei, Koromaru, and Aigis. Developer Black Wings has also promised to add Ken and Shinjiro to complete the S.E.E.S. lineup. The Western and Southeast Asian servers are expected to receive these additional characters in future updates — the SEA version trails the main global release by roughly 8 days.
This means the P5X × P3R crossover is not a one-off event but a rolling rollout of the entire Persona 3 Reload cast. For fans of P3R who missed the P5X train, this is the perfect excuse to jump in.
Anniversary Countdown
Alongside the crossover, P5X is running a 1st Anniversary Countdown Campaign leading up to the game’s June anniversary. Players who log in for 7 days during the event period receive 5 Platinum Tickets and 5 Platinum Milicoins, usable on character and weapon banners respectively. The login bonus runs until June 4.
Makoto Yuki’s banner, titled “When Moon Reaches Stars,” ends on June 25, 2026 at 1:59 AM UTC.
J-Hub’s Take
The P5X × P3R crossover is significant for a few reasons. First, it validates P5X as a genuine Persona experience rather than a cash-in gacha game. The story event features original writing, voiced cutscenes, and full integration of P3R mechanics — this isn’t a lazy asset swap.
Second, the inclusion of Theurgy and Assist actions from Persona 3 Reload into P5X’s combat system shows Atlus is thinking seriously about mechanical crossover synergy rather than just slapping a P3R skin on P5X characters. Makoto isn’t just a reskinned Joker — he plays differently, rewards different team compositions, and brings P3R’s identity into P5X’s framework.
Third, this is good marketing for both games. P3R players curious about P5X now have a reason to install it. P5X players who haven’t played P3R get a taste of Tartarus and the Dark Hour — potentially driving them toward Atlus’s catalog.
For a mobile crossover, this is about as good as it gets. Makoto Yuki is available until June 25, and with the full S.E.E.S. roster on the way, the next few months in P5X are going to be very busy for Persona fans.
