The Fate universe continues to expand with the announcement that Fate/EXTRA Record, the highly anticipated remake of the original PSP title, has been delayed from its Spring 2026 release window. In a surprising move, Type-Moon has also revealed that Bandai Namco will no longer serve as the publisher for this project. The decision comes after discussions between Type-Moon parent company Notes and Bandai Namco, with development assured to continue despite these significant changes to the project’s structure.

Fate/EXTRA Record represents a reimagining of the original Fate/EXTRA game released in 2010 for PlayStation Portable. The game is being developed by TYPE-MOON subsidiary TYPE-MOON studio bb, led by director Kazuya Niinou, who served as producer for the original Fate/EXTRA and worked on the first Etrian Odyssey game. Character designer Arco Wada returns to bring the visual style to modern platforms. The remake will be available across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam when it eventually launches.

The original Fate/EXTRA introduced players to an alternate science-fiction continuity of Type-Moon’s universe, often referred to by fans as the “Extraverse.” The game follows Hakuno Kishinami, an amnesiac protagonist who finds themselves participating in a Grail War in a setting that differs significantly from conventional reality. Players could choose from various servants including Nero (Saber), Tamamo (Caster), and Emiya (Archer). The success of the original spawned a sequel, Fate/EXTRA CCC, in 2013, as well as SHAFT’s 10-episode television anime adaptation Fate/EXTRA Last Encore in 2018. With development continuing under a new structure, fans of the Extraverse eagerly await further announcements regarding the game’s new release date and publisher.
